  5. Need help in LA

A couple of 20-year old Germans I’m supervising need a floor to crash in LA tomorrow (friday) night. They’re arriving at LAX at 8:45am and could probably take a cab to your place, but it would be superb if they could get a ride, and dropped off at the Amtrak station a day or two later.

Email me at zklein@google if you can help.

When I was traveling with my friend Meg back in March, she asked if I could have another man’s voice, whose would it be? Roy Orbison’s, obviously.

  11. Adobe Fireworks →

I’m officially adopting Fireworks over Photoshop for website prototyping because of one particular feature. Like Flash, with Fireworks you can create a ‘symbol’, let’s say a thumbnail border, and place multiple instances of that thumbnail border on a page. If later I decide to change the color of the border, I can simply edit the master symbol and the change would filter down to all instances. Oh, and you can auto align objects. I’m going guide-free!

Aside, the UI is a little junky, but excusable.

  13. Want Ad: Beautiful Minds →

Met Brad Grossman this morning (profiled in above New Yorker piece) who up until three weeks ago was Brian Grazer’s cultural attaché, a job concept that he and Grazer apparently popularized in Hollywood. Basically, Brad was responsible for keeping Brian informed of any and everything, from organic chemistry to the outcome of the World Series, as well as arrange for him to meet interesting people on a weekly basis. For this he was paid handsomely and flown around with Brian everywhere on a private jet. Brad struck out on his own and now Brian’s looking for a replacement.

And I thought leaving my perfect job at CV was hard ….

  14. Would love to know what other startups selected …

I’m registering an LLC for a new venture. When you file with New York State, the first question on the online application is “What is your business type?” Then you have to search their database and chose the one that best fits. So I type “Internet” and click enter. The results:

    • Mail Order Sales
    • Internet Sales
    • Online Retail Sales
    • Internet/Online Auction
    • Gift Baskets
    • Internet/Cyber Cafe

Hm. So I searched for ‘Web’

    (No Results)

Maybe New York State is dropping hints … the internet isn’t a business model?
